How to Cleanse and Care for Your Crystals and Energy Tools

In the reading we keep, an energy tool is a thing in continuous, active circulation — a stone that is in a room, not merely sitting in it. Circulation is the whole idea, and it is exactly what a build-up of stagnant energy interrupts. Cleansing, then, is not a superstition to observe on schedule; it is the maintenance that keeps a tool doing what it was made to do. The good news is that most of it is simpler, and drier, than people expect.

A common mistake is to treat every crystal the same way. Some love water; some dissolve in it. Some recharge in sunlight; some fade. Before any cleansing method, know what you are holding — because the wrong method does more harm than no method at all.

The one tool that cleanses the rest

Selenite is unusual: it cleanses and charges other crystals without ever needing to be cleansed itself. A flat selenite plate kept where your energy tools rest — a shelf, an altar, a bedside — quietly maintains the clarity of the whole collection with no further effort from you. If you own a single cleansing tool, let it be this one. Notably, selenite is water-soluble, so it is never washed; a dry cloth is all it asks.

An orgone field is meant to circulate, not to accumulate. A selenite plate beneath a set keeps the whole collection clear without any additional effort.

Method by material

  • Pyrite and pyrite forms — never wash. Pyrite is iron-based and moisture will tarnish it. Dust gently with a dry cloth or soft brush, keep it away from damp, and its golden lustre needs no polishing.
  • Orgone pyramids — wipe with a dry cloth and rest them under moonlight, ideally on Purnima. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight, which can fade rose quartz and amethyst over time.
  • Amethyst and rose quartz — moonlight, not midday sun. Both are beautiful and both fade under UV; a full-moon night restores them without risk.
  • Selenite — dry cloth only, and moonlight to recharge. Keep it away from water entirely.
  • Black tourmaline — the exception that welcomes water. A brief rinse under running water, or a short rest in dry earth, clears it; morning sunlight re-energises it.

How often, and how to know

A gentle monthly rhythm — cleansing on or near the full moon — suits most collections. Beyond the calendar, cleanse a tool after any period of intensity in the home: illness, conflict, a house full of guests, or a major change. You will develop a feel for it. A tool that has been working hard often looks a little dull to the eye that knows it well; that is the moment to clear it.

None of this needs to become a burden. The practice is meant to be brief and unhurried — the same steadiness the tools themselves are built on. Place a selenite plate beneath your collection, keep pyrite dry, give the crystals a full moon now and then, and your energy tools will hold their place quietly for years.
